Although our legal entity is called Church on the Square Perry Corporation, a more accurate name might be Kingdom on the Square! When we planted this non-profit, religious organization in 2009, we had every intention to plant a "church" - a place where people would gather to worship and praise Jesus Christ. It would be a "new" church, a church that would be different, exciting, and transforming for this community. But along the way, God had a different plan and He's taught us a unique way of thinking about "Church" and "Kingdom" since that time.
Here's what we learned: The church is not the point of the Kingdom of God. It is simply a subset of the Kingdom. Jesus taught us to pray "thy Kingdom come," not "thy church come." The Kingdom has a much more expansive mission than can be expressed through the institutional church. The church does have a vital role to play, but the church is not the center of the action. Its purpose is to further God's kingdom. Click HERE to learn about our "church," and its gathering times, etc.
So, with that philosophy and foundation, we set out on a mission - a Kingdom mission - to be a people of blessing to this community; to live lives of generosity and grace, service and sensitivity; to be positive examples of joy and contentment in a culture awash in negativity and anxiety. Our first intentional Kingdom mission was 611 Bakehouse, a place where people can be blessed with great food, drinks, and a comfortable place to meet with friends and family. In addition to our regular business hours, the building is reserved outside our normal hours for numerous community functions including birthday parties, business meetings, and Bible studies... all at no cost. We pray it's another way that we can be a blessing to the people of this community!
Future plans to bless and enhance the lives of the people of Perry are in the works and will be revealed as God reveals next steps to us.
